Special Session:
Resource Management in Cloud and Fog Computing: Security, Energy Efficiency, and Scheduling Challenges
Cloud and fog computing are vital components of modern distributed systems, offering scalable and flexible computational resources. However, with the rise of real-time applications especially in domains like healthcare and smart cities—resource management becomes increasingly complex due to conflicting Quality of Service (QoS) requirements such as energy efficiency, cost, security, and privacy.
This Special Session aims to showcase innovative research addressing these challenges. We invite original contributions that propose novel models, frameworks, and optimization techniques to enhance resource management in cloud and fog environments while maintaining high performance, security, and reliability.
Topics of Interest:
We invite contributors involved both in research institutions and industry to submit their proposed works to address key topics to be covered in this session, but not limited to: Optimization Techniques:
- Heuristic and meta-heuristic algorithms
- Machine learning and deep learning approaches
- Multi-objective and many-objective optimization
- Constraint and dynamic optimization methods
Resource Management Challenges:
- Privacy-preserving data processing
- Security-aware task and workflow scheduling
- Green computing and energy-efficient strategies
- Dynamic scheduling for real-time applications
- Resource provisioning and allocation
Prospective authors of papers are invited to submit a paper (typically 4-6 pages in standard IEEE two-column A4 format) via EDAS platform by suggesting the related special session: link. The paper should contain a complete description of the proposed contribution along with results, suitably framed in the related state of the art. Each paper will be reviewed in terms of relevance with respect to the scope of the event, originality and quality of the technical content, overall organization and writing style.

Rahma Fourati
Rahma Fourati is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Management Sciences of Jendouba. She received her M.S. degree from the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management of Sfax (FSEGS) in 2011 and a degree in Computer Engineering from the National Engineering School of Sfax (ENIS). She later earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science Engineering from ENIS in 2021, conducting her research within the REsearch Group in Intelligent Machines (REGIM). Her research interests include evolutionary optimization, neural network compression, and healthcare applications, with a particular focus on physiological signals and audio-visual speech enhancement. She actively contributes to advancing deep learning techniques for efficient and practical real-world applications.

Vincenzo Piuri
A Professor in computer engineering at the Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy. His main research interests are: biometrics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, pattern analysis and recognition, signal and image processing. He has participated in several EU- and MUR- funded projects and published 400+ papers in international journals, proceedings of international conferences, and books. He has edited/authored several books on biometrics technology. He has been Visiting Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, TX (USA), and visiting researcher at George Mason University, VA (USA). He has been IEEE Vice President for Technical Activities (2015), IEEE Region 8 Director (2023-24), and IEEE Director, President of the IEEE Systems Council, and President of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. He is Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Open Journal of Computer Society (2025-2026), has been Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Systems Journal (2013-19) and served as General chair and Program chair of several international conferences. He is Fellow of the IEEE, Fellow of IFIP, Distinguished Scientist of ACM, and Senior Member of INNS. He received the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society Technical Award (2002), the IEEE TAB Hall of Honor (2019), and the Rudolf Kalman Professor Title of the Obuda University, Hungary (2014). He has also received the Honorary Professor recognition at several international institutions.

Najwa Kouka
Najwa Kouka received a Ph.D degree in computer systems engineering from the National School of Engineers of Sfax, Tunisia, in 2023. She is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Computer Science of Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy since 2024. Her main research interests include optimization problems (multi-objective, many-objective optimization, and dynamic optimization) and the application of evolutionary algorithms in real-world scenarios.
